Weather fails to dampen spirits on International Women's Day in Sheffield.

"It makes you proud to be a woman."

This weekend marked the 102nd International Women's Day for women all over the world.

The annual event invites all women to celebrate their achievements and to fight for female equality.

1464 events were registered on the International Women's Day Website including guest speakers, poetry readings, photography exhibitions and many more.
On Saturday, Behind the Beauty headed into Sheffield City Centre to see how they were celebrating….
Crowds gathered outside Barkers Pool this Saturday, to take part in a fun mass work-out run by Activity Sheffield.

The 'Flash mob' incorporated moves from popular dance crazes Bokwa and Zumba, and saw women of all ages uniting suddenly in the middle of Sheffield's busy high street.
The 'Flashmob' was a concept designed in 2003, which describes a group of people who assemble suddenly to perform and quickly disperse for the purpose of entertainment and expression.

After deciding to embrace International Women's Day, Activity Sheffield put together the event by inviting ladies from Zumba and Bokwa classes all over the city to come and bring in the crowds.

The three flash mobs took place over two hours and blasted out tracks from Bonnie Tyler "I need a hero" to LMFAO "Sexy and I know it!"

As well as dance regulars, many passers-by took the opportunity to join in the fun.
Louan Rowe, who took part in the event, said she was proud to have taken part:
"I love it! It's great to see women together, dancing and having a good time. It makes you proud to be a woman."
Despite the wet and windy weather, sprits never dampened and many have been asking for a repeat performance:

"We have already been asked when the next one will be and we are looking to plan another for the summer which will be warmer and hopefully even more people will get involved," said Emma Bagshaw (Activity Sheffield.)

It was clear from the turn out in Sheffield that many women wanted to take the opportunity to unite, to celebrate and dance but most of all,  to show they were proud of being a woman.
